Police have arrested fugitive Sandesh Sharma, one of the key accused in the Bhutanese refugee scam, from Lalitpur on Sunday.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Sharma had been on the run since escaping from prison on September 9.
A special team from the police’s metropolitan office tracked him down and took him into custody.
Sharma is among several individuals charged in the high-profile fake Bhutanese refugee case, which has implicated senior political leaders, former ministers, and top bureaucrats accused of collecting millions of rupees from victims by promising to send them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.
