The Kathmandu District Administration Office has asked people not to travel in and out of the Valley by road at night from October 3 to 6, citing forecasts of heavy rainfall and possible disasters.
Assistant Chief District Officer Ashok Kumar Bhandari said the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of heavy downpours that could trigger floods, landslides, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas. He urged residents to stay put and avoid long-distance travel unless absolutely necessary.
“It is requested that those travelling out of Kathmandu and entering Kathmandu from outside refrain from travelling at night,” Bhandari said in a public notice.
The administration has also shared emergency contact numbers for rescue and relief services, including the District Police Office (1660–01–41516, 9851283026, 01–5721017), the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 20 Disaster Rescue Unit, Sinamangal (9851272035, 01–4471337), and the District Emergency Operation Centre (9851362937).
Earlier, the Lalitpur District Administration restricted traffic along the Kanti Highway, allowing vehicle movement only between 6 am and 4 pm, and barring vehicles larger than four-wheel drives. Other districts have also introduced similar restrictions in high-risk zones.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, monsoon activity is set to intensify from Thursday night, with heavier rainfall likely on Saturday and Sunday.
