President Ramchandra Paudel on Sunday appointed senior advocate Sabita Bhandari as the new attorney general of Nepal, making her the first woman to hold the position.
According to the Office of the President, Bhandari’s appointment was made on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
Earlier the same day, the president’s office formally notified about the approval of the resignation of former attorney general Ramesh Badal.
Bhandari, who previously served as a commissioner at the Information Commission, is also the daughter of legal scholar Krishna Prasad Bhandari.
Prime Minister Karki proposed Bhandari for the role on Sunday morning, and following her acceptance, the appointment process was completed.
