The Cabinet on Friday appointed Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung as the new Inspector General of Nepal Police.
He is currently serving as chief of the Central Investigation Bureau.
Khapung will assume office as the 32nd police chief on September 3. He will replace the current IGP Deepak Thapa.
Born in Tehrathum, the 55-year-old joined the Nepal Police in 1995. He has served as the head of the prime minister’s security team and completed two United Nations missions in Haiti. He also oversaw administration at the police headquarters.
Khapung received training in Italy, South Korea, Vietnam, and China. He previously led the Kathmandu Valley Crime Division and served as Koshi Province police chief.
