Indian Foreign Secretary Misri arrives in Kathmandu on two-day visit
Visit seen as preparation for Prime Minister Oli’s trip to India.
Post Report
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday morning on a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai.
Misri landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 9am and headed straight to Soaltee Hotel, where he is staying. During his visit, he will meet President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also leader of the main opposition in Parliament, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday announced Misri’s visit to Kathmandu.
Officials said Misri’s visit comes ahead of Oli’s scheduled trip to India on September 16. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not formally linked the two visits, sources confirmed that Misri will hand over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to Oli and discuss the agenda and logistics of the upcoming trip.

The two foreign secretaries are set to hold delegation-level talks on connectivity, development cooperation and other bilateral matters. Rai will host a dinner in Misri’s honour.
This is Misri’s second visit since assuming office in July last year. He last visited Kathmandu in August 2024 on a familiarisation trip.
Oli’s India visit this time will take him to Bodh Gaya instead of New Delhi. Modi is hosting Oli in the Buddhist pilgrimage town, where the two leaders will hold delegation-level talks, followed by lunch and a joint press conference on September 17. Oli is also scheduled to visit Nalanda University and address a special gathering.
