Six highways blocked across the country
One-way traffic on several key routes as floods and landslides continue to disrupt travel.
Post Report
At least six major highways in Nepal have been fully blocked after days of torrential rain triggered floods and landslides, police said on Monday.
The Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha, Mechi Highway and the Tamor Corridor in Panchthar have been cut off completely in the eastern part of the country.
The Kaligandaki Corridor in Nawalparasi East, the Sahid Highway in Rolpa, and the Jajarkot-Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West are also blocked both ways in the western Nepal.
Police said one-way movement is possible on the Tokha-Nuwakot road in Tokha, Kathmandu, sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung and Nawalparasi East, the Mid-Hill Highway in Galkot, and parts of the Sahid Highway in Rolpa.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday appealed to the public to refrain from travelling long distances unless essential, citing the risk of monsoon-related disasters.
Referring to a forecast issued by the Meteorological Forecasting Division warning of heavy rainfall across multiple regions, the prime minister said safety instructions from authorities must be followed.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected across the country on Monday. There is a chance of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at some places in the hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few locations elsewhere.
One or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces could witness heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely in some areas of the high-hill and mountainous regions.
