Floods, landslides block highways across Nepal
Major disruptions on East-West, Siddhartha and BP highways and Kaligandaki corridor.
Post Report
Several major highways across Nepal have been obstructed by landslides and road collapses triggered by continuous rainfall since Tuesday night, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded and travel plans disrupted across the country.
In Nawalparasi East, a section of the East-West Highway near Khursanikhola caved in around 5:30am Wednesday, halting all traffic. According to the District Police Office in Parasi, a truck got stuck at the collapsed section. Deputy Superintendent of Police Bir Dutta Pant said police personnel have been deployed for rescue and road clearance.
Meanwhile, in Palpa, the Siddhartha Highway has remained blocked since early Wednesday after a landslide struck near the Siddhababa Temple in ward 3 of Tinau Rural Municipality around 2am. The landslide occurred near the Dobhan head box area, and continued rainfall has made clearance efforts difficult, said local resident Bishnu Prasad Pandey. Hundreds of vehicles travelling between the hills and the Tarai—including from Syangja, Pokhara, Baglung, Gulmi and Arghakhanchi—have been left stranded.

The Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung has also been blocked since Tuesday evening after heavy rainfall triggered landslides in Baglung Municipality-10. According to Basanta Pandey, the information officer at the District Police Office, Baglung, the rainfall has prevented immediate road clearance.
In Myagdi, landslides have obstructed the road connecting the district headquarters, Beni to Darbang and Muna in the west. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Thapa, multiple small landslides occurred in Malika Rural Municipality-6 and Beni Municipality-4. Rain gauge centres recorded 110 mm of rainfall in Darbang and 77 mm in Muna between 6am and 8am on Wednesday, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Similarly, the Kanti Lokpath connecting Hetauda to Kathmandu was blocked on Wednesday morning after a massive landslide at Gangate on the Thingan–Baguwa section. Police Inspector Bidya Sagar Mehta of the Area Police Office in Thingan said efforts to clear the debris using excavators, police personnel, and local residents are ongoing. Vehicles heading to Kathmandu from Hetauda have been stopped at Thingan, while those travelling in the opposite direction are being held at Baguwa.
In Kavre district, landslides at multiple points on the BP Highway—including Pingthali, Charsebesi, and Mangalatar along the Bhakunde–Nepalthok section—have caused major traffic disruptions. According to Police Inspector Sunil Kumar Dhanzu of the District Traffic Police Office, vehicles heading from Kathmandu to Sindhuli are being held at Kavrevanjyang, while those heading to Kathmandu from Sindhuli have been stopped at Mangalatar since 1am.

Authorities are actively working to clear the debris and restore traffic movement, but officials say resumption of full operations will depend on the weather and road conditions.
