The global order is beginning to change rapidly, says former PM Bhattarai

The Ambassadors’ Club and International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) were inaugurated in Kathmandu on Sunday, along with the launch of The Diplomat Nepal, the country’s first diplomatic magazine and media platform.
Speaking at the event, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said Nepal must no longer remain on the sidelines as the global order is changing rapidly. “This initiative is a timely and necessary response at a moment when the world demands more dialogue and decisive action—rooted in peace, proactive sovereignty, and meaningful contributions to justice,” he said.
He said the newly launched platforms would foster trust and shape foreign policy through inclusivity. “They address critical issues such as labour rights, climate change, and the empowerment of women and youth—not simply reacting to global intimacies, but actively shaping Nepal’s future.”
Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, president of the Ambassadors' Club and IRGDD, described the launch as the beginning of a journey to place Nepal at the centre of global discourse. “Small nations must rise—not in conflict, but in conviction,” she said. “Diplomacy must be inclusive. It does not follow colours, borders, or status. It follows values.”
Former foreign minister Ramesh Nath Pandey said the IRGDD would enable Nepal to speak “with conviction, purpose, and principle,” while former Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala called the platforms “timely and transformative.”
UN Resident Coordinator Hana Singer Hamdy said The Diplomat Nepal carries “the energy and momentum of Sagarmatha Sambaad,” and reflects global diplomacy through climate and diaspora lenses.
