Rainfall has disrupted traffic along various sections on multiple major highways across central and western Nepal, including Kantilok Path, Araniko Highway, the Butwal-Narayanghat section of the East-West Highway, and the Kaligandaki Corridor.
In Makawanpur, the Kantilok Path has remained blocked since Saturday morning after the rain-swollen Bagmati River swept away a diversion on the Lalitpur side of the Bagmati bridge.
The bridge connects ward 8 of Bhimphedi Rural Municipality in Makwanpur with ward 2 of Bagmati Rural Municipality in Lalitpur. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal said the diversion had previously been damaged in floods in September last year and was only recently restored.
Additional landslides triggered by Friday and Saturday’s rainfall have blocked other sections of the road.
In Bhaktapur, traffic along the Araniko Highway has been affected due to ongoing construction and rain-triggered difficulties on the Suryabinayak–Jagati section. Police Inspector Pradeep Khatri said traffic is being allowed only in one direction, from Kavre to Bhaktapur.
Light vehicles heading the opposite way are being diverted via Jagati, Chyamasingh, Tathali and Nala to reach Banepa, while heavy vehicles have been stopped at Sallaghari and Jagati due to slippery conditions.
In Nawalparasi East, early Sunday morning rainfall rendered the Daunne section of the East-West Highway dangerously slippery. The Dumkibas Area Police Office said vehicles could not pass near the Bishwakarma Temple.

Traffic police halted vehicles at Dumkibas, Arunkhola, Chormara and Bardaghat to ease congestion.
Authorities recommended the Kaligandaki Corridor as an alternative route. However, a landslide near Hiunde Khola in ward 3 of Gaindakot Municipality also blocked the corridor on Sunday. The Gaindakot Area Police Office said mudslides have continued in the area, prompting police to halt traffic and deploy a team led by a sub-inspector.
The Kaligandaki Corridor is frequently used by light vehicles when the Butwal–Narayanghat section of the highway is blocked. It connects eastern Nawalparasi’s hilly regions, including Rampur and Pipal Danda in Palpa, to the Butwal–Syangja road.
The Daunne Hill road, a 14-kilometre section between Dumkibas and Bardaghat, remains in poor condition due to prolonged neglect following widening of the road that started six years ago.
