The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said it is actively coordinating with Indian authorities to ensure an independent and impartial investigation into the death of Prisha Sah, a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said it is working to guarantee the safety of all Nepali students studying at the institution and has expressed deep sorrow over Sah’s death. It also extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished for eternal peace for the deceased.
The ministry added that the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi has been in constant contact with India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the Odisha government, university officials, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination on the matter.
Prisha Sah, a first-year BTech Computer Science student from Sarlahi district, was found dead in her hostel room at around 8:10 pm on Thursday. The university confirmed that she died by suicide and that her body was declared brought dead at KIMS Hospital before being transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further procedures.
Earlier today, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it is maintaining close communication with Nepali authorities and Odisha state officials. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic demise of a Nepali student of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar,” it said, adding that a thorough investigation is being conducted by the Odisha Police and that the state government is providing full support to the deceased’s family.
KIIT University said it immediately informed local police of the incident and is extending full cooperation to the investigation. “We mourn this irreparable loss and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the entire Nepali student community,” the university said.
This is the second death of a Nepali student at the same university in less than three months. On February 16, Prakriti Lamsal was found dead in a suspected suicide, reportedly following torture by a classmate. The Odisha government had formed a team to investigate her death, but the findings are yet to be made public.
