Nepali Congress calls Central Working Committee meeting amid growing internal dissent
The meeting, scheduled for April 30, comes as top party leaders openly criticise the government’s performance.
Post Report
The Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its Central Working Committee for April 30 to discuss current political issues. According to Krishna Prasad Paudel, the party’s chief secretary at the central office, the meeting will be held at 1 pm and will include office bearers, committee members, and invited members.
The decision to convene the meeting comes amid increasing internal criticism of the party’s role in the KP Sharma Oli-led government. Several senior leaders—including party president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s rival Shekhar Koirala, along with general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma—have been vocal about the government’s poor performance.
Observers say the upcoming meeting will be closely watched, particularly as divisions in the party grow more apparent. Critics within the party have been questioning the logic of supporting a government they describe as ineffective, while also pointing to the ideological tension of collaborating with communist forces.
The party leadership is expected to deliberate on its position in the ruling coalition, as well as broader governance issues, at the April-end meeting.
