RPP demands resignation of Home Minister Lekhak over Tinkune incident
The pro-monarchy party has called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
Post Report
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in connection with the investigation into the Tinkune incident on March 28.
A group of RPP leaders, along with party chair Rajendra Lingden, met Acting Prime Minister Prakashman Singh on Thursday and urged for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
The pro-monarchy party claimed that the actions of the state agencies provoked the protesters to turn violent.
RPP also voiced its objections to the sedition charges that have been filed against its leaders, including senior vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra and general secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana, who participated in the protest. The party described the charges as unjust.
Furthermore, the RPP has demanded formation of an independent investigation commission led by a former Supreme Court judge, with representatives from the Human Rights Commission and civil society.
The party’s demands also include the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the suspension of the police chief and administrative leadership involved in Friday’s crackdown.
RPP urged the government to declare the people who lost their lives martyrs and demanded the release of RPP leaders, including Mishra and Rana.
Though the RPP advocates for reinstatement of the country’s status as Hindu Kingdom, which was abolished in 2008, it didn’t officially join the March 28 protest organised by a pro-monarchy group led by Panchayat-era leader Nabaraj Subedi and a controversial businessman Durga Parsai.
However, some RPP leaders including Mishra and Rana actively led the protest.
