Police have arrested 17 people, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra, following violent pro-monarchy protests at Tinkune and other areas in the capital city Kathmandu.
According to a senior police source, Mishra, along with leaders Dhawal Shamsher Rana, Sefford Limbu, and Santosh Tamang, were detained under various charges as per existing laws.
Two people died, and 45 others were injured in violent clashes between security personnel and pro-monarchy protesters in the afternoon.
As many as seven people who sustained bullet injuries are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu. Five individuals are being treated at the Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj and two at the National Trauma Centre.
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has extended the curfew clamped in the Baneshwar-Tinkune stretch and surrounding areas until Saturday morning.
