Two people lost their lives in a tragic scooter accident in ward 7 of Chandrakot Rural Municipality, Gulmi district, on Thursday. The scooter went off the road at Chiureni cliff while traveling from Majuwa to Chorkate.
The deceased have been identified as Kiran Bahadur Thapa, 38, and Binod Sunar, 32, both residents of ward 6 in Chandrakot Rural Municipality, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokharel from the District Police Office, Gulmi.
The vehicle plunged about 50 meters into the gorge of the Badighat stream, said Yubaraj Khattri, chairman of Chandrakot Rural Municipality. Though locals rushed the victims to the Khaireni primary health center, doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Chairman Khatri noted that the narrow and uneven road along Chiureni cliff remains a challenge for drivers, leading to frequent accidents in the area.
Police are investigating the incident.
