Major highways linking Kathmandu have reopened, with traffic moving in one or both directions at different points, according to the latest update from the Department of Roads.
Shubha Raj Neupane, deputy director general and spokesperson for the department, said the BP Highway, Prithvi Highway, Kanti Highway, Tribhuvan Highway, Arniko Highway and the Balkhu-Kulekhani-Bhimphedi-Hetauda road are all open to traffic.
“Some sections are operating one-way, while most stretches are carrying traffic in both directions,” Neupane said.
The highways were disrupted or restricted to one-way traffic at several points after days of incessant rain triggered road damage and blockages in different parts of the country. Road crews have since been clearing the affected sections and restoring traffic on the main routes into Kathmandu.
On the Prithvi Highway, traffic is currently moving one-way through Krishnabhir in Dhading. Work is underway to restore two-way traffic at the site, Neupane said.
