12 dead in Baglung floods, landslides over past week

As many as 12 people have died in Baglung district following floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in a week. The deaths occurred on September 25, 26 and 27, police said.
On the night of September 25, Man Bahadur Roka of Dhammar in ward 5 of Tarakhola Rural Municipality was killed when a landslide buried his house.
According to Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai of the District Police Office, 11 people died on September 26 and 27. Three people died, and five others were injured in Tarakhola Rural Municipality. Four people died in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, while five died and one remains missing in Nisikhola Rural Municipality.
Police Inspector Yam Narayan Aryal, the information officer at the district police office, said floods and landslides destroyed 51 houses and partially damaged another 51.
Three suspension bridges and a ward office were destroyed. Two police offices and two hydropower projects also suffered partial damage, police said.
