The Ministry of Home Affairs has warned that legal action will be taken against individuals using social media to spread hateful and misleading content.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said that those who undermine social harmony, disrupt public peace, or violate law and order will be brought under legal scrutiny.
The ministry said it is concerned over the growing misuse of social media by some individuals to circulate divisive and false expressions, which are prohibited by law.
It said that spreading content that damages inter-ethnic, religious, or communal relations, incites violence, or undermines public decency and morality will be a punishable offence.
