Post Report
The CPN-UML and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday.
While the meeting was underway, UML lawmakers objected to a statement by Nepali Congress leader Rajendra KC that opposition lawmakers on Thursday walked out of the meeting intentionally so the sitting fell short of a quorum to table and discuss a bill in the lower House.
“Opposition parties staged a strange drama at the House yesterday when the bill on political parties was presented. As many as 10-15 lawmakers walked out of the meeting and it is because of the same reason the sitting fell short of quorum. Is it the place to endorse a bill only by the ruling parties?” he said.
Lawmakers from Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Swatantra Party also stood from their seats to object to the ruling lawmaker’s statement.
Speaking at the meeting, UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai demanded the resignation of three Cabinet ministers—Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party chief whip Gyanendra Shahi also demanded the resignation of Minister Jwala and asserted that the prime minister and the home minister answer the House on the issue.
Lawmakers from the main opposition the CPN-UML and RPP stood from their seats and obstructed the House proceedings after Speaker Ghimire tried to proceed the meeting to today’s business.
Speaker Ghimire then adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes.
