Police take LOD manager in custody to enquire on minor rape case

Police have taken Sahadev Sedai, manager of Lord of Drinks (LoD), in custody to enquire in connection with the rape case of a minor girl.
The 25-year-old manager of the Thamel-based popular nightclub, and 21-year-old Sapana Dhungana surrendered to the police on Monday, said Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal, who is also spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kathmandu.
However, Dhungana, who worked as a receptionist at the club, has been released on the condition to be available for further inquiry, Rijal added.
On June 28, arrest warrants were issued against club owners Raju Singh Suwal and Rudil Ballav Shrestha, on charge of breaching Section 66 (2) of the Act Relating to Children, 2018 by allowing entry of a minor.
They were arrested in early July but were later released on bail, police said.
The provision in the act states that any person involving a child in addictions such as smoking, drinking or gambling and allowing him/her to enter or use him/her in recreational facilities opened for adults such as dance bars and casinos shall be deemed to have committed the act of violence against the child.
Such a person(s) is liable to a fine of up to Rs50,000 and imprisonment for up to one year as per the law.
Police on June 14 had arrested Sudan Bahadur Koirala on the charge of raping a 15-year-old girl in Lalitpur after taking her away from the Thamel-based nightclub.
