A meeting of the National Assembly on Sunday has been adjourned until Monday following obstruction from the CPN-UML lawmakers.
Speaking at the meeting soon after the commencement of the proceedings, UML’s Bhagwati Neupane said they will not allow the upper House to conduct its business unless Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tenders his resignation.
She also accused the prime minister of signing anti-national agreements during his recent India trip.
“Didn’t you say that Pritam Singh went to Delhi many times to make you the prime minister? Don’t you need to answer the House now?” Neupane questioned Prime Minister Dahal.
Then, UML lawmakers stood from their seats to obstruct the proceeding, forcing chair Timilsina to adjourn the meeting until 11:01 am on Monday.
Opposition parties including the UML have been obstructing proceedings in both the House of Representatives and National Assembly for the last couple of days over the prime minister’s remarks.
On July 3, Prime Minister Dahal, while addressing a function to launch the book ‘Roads to the Valley: The Legacy of Sardar Pritam Singh in Nepal’, had said that Sardar Pritam Singh, referred to as the pioneer trucking entrepreneur in Nepal, has played a special and historic role in enhancing Nepal-India relations.
“He [Singh] had once made efforts to make me the prime minister,” Dahal added. “He reached Delhi several times and held multiple rounds of talks with political leaders in Kathmandu to make me the prime minister.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chair KP Oli held a meeting in a bid to forge an agreement for lifting House obstruction.
