Home ministry forms team to hold talks with loan shark victims

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday formed a five-member team headed by the joint secretary at the ministry Pradip Kumar Koirala to hold talks with loan shark victims protesting in the Capital.
According to Jitendra Basnet, spokesperson of the home ministry, Under Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Uma Kanta Adhikari; Under Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Jung Bahadur Dangi and Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali are members of the committee.
Under Secretary at home ministry Dil Kumar Tamang has been named member-secretary of the talks team.
A Cabinet meeting on Monday had formed a three-member inquiry commission under the leadership of the former chairman of the Special Court, Gauri Bahadur Karki, to resolve the problems of loan shark victims.
The commission was formed following a five-point agreement reached between government officials and representatives of loan-shark victims.
But a group of victims under the banner of Farmers-Workers Struggle Committee has continued the protest demanding that the government take action against usurers.
Earlier today, police rounded up the protesters in front of the main entrance of Singha Durbar, the central government secretariat, after they breached the prohibited area.
