Two mild earthquakes recorded in Kavre and Achham
No human casualties have been reported so far.Post Report
Two mild earthquakes have been reported in Kavrepalanchok and Achham districts on Sunday morning.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale with an epicentre in Kavrepalanchok district was recorded at 8:03am.
Likewise, another tremor was recorded with epicentre in Achham district at 8:35am. The quake measured 4.4 on the Richter scale.
No human casualties have been reported so far.
On February 13, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Taplejung district.
On January 24, a woman died following a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that rattled west Nepal with an epicentre in Bajura district.
Likewise, six persons died following an earthquake that struck west Nepal on November 10 last year.
Earthquakes are common in Nepal which is situated on the ridge where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet and advance two meters closer to one another every century which results in pressure which is released in form of earthquakes.
As the government’s post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA) report noted, Nepal is the 11th most earthquake-prone country in the world.
