Supreme Court refuses to lift travel ban imposed on Sandeep Lamichhane

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to issue an order to allow cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane from travelling abroad.
Responding to a petition filed by Lamichhane demanding to annul the verdict of Patan High Court to bar him from leaving Nepal, a single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada ordered to present the petitions by Attorney Office and Lamichhane together for a hearing on Sunday.
The rape-accused cricketer on Thursday moved the apex court demanding an order to allow him to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a triangular series of the ICC World Cup League 2 to be played from February 27 to March 6.
The Attorney General’s Office on January 31 had moved the Supreme Court challenging the decision of Patan High Court to release the national cricketer on bail.
Lamichhane, accused of raping a minor on August 21 last year and released on Rs2 million bail by the Patan High Court on January 13, has been excluded from the squad due to a travel ban imposed by the high court. The high court had set conditions that he would not be allowed to leave Kathmandu without prior approval.
The national cricket team is set to travel to the UAE on Saturday.
