Bishwa Raj Pokharel, Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, submitted his resignation from the post on Monday afternoon at the Nepal Police headquarters.
Deputy Inspector General Tek Prasad Rai, also the spokesperson of Nepal Police confirmed Pokharel’s resignation submission.
“Pokharel submitted his resignation today afternoon to IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh through AIG Pooja Singh in the human resource department,” said Rai. “Pokharel’s resignation will come into effect after the Cabinet approves it.”
Pokharel had reached the Supreme Court in May demanding that the government’s decision to promote his junior Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Nepal Police be quashed.
However, Supreme Court on July 15 quashed his writ petition upholding the government’s decision to promote Dhiraj Pratap Singh to IGP.
Pokharel had filed the petition arguing he was appointed AIG 16 months before Singh and that the government did not consider seniority while promoting Singh. He had demanded that Singh’s appointment be annulled.
Pokharel was set to retire on August 5. IGP Singh and AIG Pokharel had entered the police service as police inspectors on the same day in 1993.
