The Supreme Court has quashed the writ petition of Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Bishwa Raj Pokharel upholding the government’s decision to promote Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the top post of the Nepal Police.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and justice Kumar Chudal decided to quash the writ petition.
“Pokharel’s writ has been quashed but the written order is yet to be revealed,” said Bimal Poudel, spokesperson of the Supreme Court.
Pokharel had reached the Supreme Court demanding that the government’s decision to promote his junior Dhiraj Pratap Singh be quashed.
The Supreme Court has also quashed the writ petitions of Ghanashyam Aryal, Ishwor Babu Karki and Prakash Babu Karki, who had challenged the promotion of Pokhrel to AIG.
AIG Pokhrel is on leave after the government’s May 1 decision. He had filed a writ against the decision a day after on May 2.
Singh was the third-ranked officer in the police department after Bishwa Raj Pokharel and Sahakul Thapa.
However, the Sher Bahadur Deuba government chose Singh over two of his seniors.
