China does not export its ideology, says Chinese ambassador in response to criticism
In the wake of the recent controversy over the training programme on Xi Jinping Thought conducted by the Communist Party of China, Hou Yanqi, the usually taciturn Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, has said that China has never sought to export its ideology to any country.
Concerns were raised in Kathmandu after the ruling Nepali Communist Party hosted a two-day ideological training session with a team from the Communist Party of China, signing a six-point memorandum at the end.
Dahal owns up to insurgency-era mistakes and pledges to deliver transitional justice
Nepal Communist Party Co-chair and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who led the decade-long ‘people’s war’, said on Thursday that he takes the responsibility for “all the positive and negative implications of the insurgency” and that he is ready to face action for his mistakes.
Dahal was speaking at a programme organised by the National Human Rights Commission, where it invited cross-party leadership to discuss ways to take Nepal’s long-drawn transitional justice process forward.
It’s Dashain time, so here we goat
It’s soon to be Dashain, so mutton-lust is at an all-time high. Tens of thousands of goats are coming to the Valley in time for all the Nepalis that will flock outside their local butchers in preparation for their annual celebration.
While many will fall back on old family recipes or opt for off-the-shelf spice mixes, here are some suggestions for how to do the goats justice post-mortem. Don’t just use generic meat masalas, or throw all the offal in at once, roast and blend your own spices and savour the merits of different cuts—go the extra mile, for miles more flavour.
For football fans, fantasy leagues provide one more avenue to indulge their obsessions
Sudhan Regmi follows the English Premier League like a religion. His favourite team is Chelsea, whose matches he never misses. His dedication to the game is such that he’s taken up a digital version of the game to go along with the actual plays that take place in real time.
Regmi began playing the Fantasy Premier League—an online game where participants select a team of footballers and score points based on their actual performances on the field—five seasons ago in 2014 with three of his friends. Today, he plays the game with 18 of his friends.
Press Council wants to monitor journalists’ social media use because it wants them to be ‘role models’
Press Council’s eyes will now be on journalists’ social media accounts. Earlier this week, the Press Council and Nepali journalists’ umbrella association, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, amended the Journalists’ Code of Conduct, in an attempt to monitor what reporters say on social media.
If a journalist’s tweet or Facebook post is reported to the Council as a violation of the Council’s code of conduct by posting anything that’s not “respectful”, he/she might have to face the music.
