The government has appointed Amrit Bahadur Rai as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative (PR) of Nepal to the United Nations in New York City, United States of America. The post of PR is considered a vital diplomatic post.
A Cabinet meet on Monday decided to appoint Rai to the post of Nepal’s Permanent Representative to UN, Prime Minister KP Oli’s aide Kundan Aryal said. The post had been lying vacant after Durga Prasad Bhattarai left New York after completing his tenure in July 2018.
A career diplomat, Rai had earlier served as Nepali ambassador to South Africa since 2014. Earlier in November, the government had recalled Rai from South Africa.
