Students from the mountainous districts of Karnali Province have to sit their final exams without completing the annual course every year.
Shortage of teachers and irregular attendance of both the students and teachers are the main reasons why the courses did not complete on time, said Sher Bahadur Rokaya, a seventh grader at Mahadev Basic School in Jumla.
“Compulsory subjects such as Mathematics, Social Studies, Nepali and Computer Science are not taught well, so we are forced to face the exams unprepared,” said Rokaya.
Also, the school has no computer even though computer studies has been made a compulsory subject.
“The school takes theoretical classes only. We show pictures to the students so they are able to identify mouse, desktop, monitor, CPU and other computer parts,” Madan Prasad Upadhyay, a teacher at the school.
The students said they face difficulties to prepare for the Computer Science exam without having taken any practical classes.
