The health condition of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was hospitalised after suffering from lower respiratory tract infection, has improved further, doctors involved in his treatment said on Tuesday.
He was admitted to Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre (MCVTC) in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Monday after he complained of chest pain and breathing difficulty. Reports of medical tests including blood and x-ray conducted this morning showed improvement in Oli’s health, according to a statement issued by Dr Uttam Krishna Shrestha, Director at MCVTC.
The centre organised a press meet to inform about Oli’s health. Senior cardiologist Dr Shayami said Oli had his breakfast comfortably this morning and talked with his the visitors with ease.
A team of doctors including Dr Arun Shayami, Dr Divya Singh, and his personal physician, Dr Santa Das, has been attending on Oli.
Oli’s chest infection has been healing gradually, and fever has come down. He will be kept at the hospital under doctors’ observation for two more days.
Earlier on Monday, President of main opposition party Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba and House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara visited Oli at the hospital on Monday and wished for his speedy recovery. Senior Nepal Communist Party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal also went to the hospital to inquire about his health condition. He was admitted to the hospital at 4:30 on Monday after he developed a chest infection.
Oli had been down with fever since Friday and was unable to attend a tea reception organised by his party, Nepal Communist Party (NCP), at Bhrikutimandap.
Prime Minister Oli had undergone transplant surgery of both kidneys in India in 2007. Since then, he has remained under strict medical observation that entails visiting Thailand regularly for medical check-ups.
More recently, the prime minister had undergone a prostate surgery in India in 2014.
