Melung Rural Municipality in Dolakha district has allocated Rs 2.5 million to convert Gaikhura Mahadev Temple into a religious tourist site.
The temple, which is situated 31km from the district headquarters Charikot, was severely damaged during the 2015 earthquake. It remains in a dilapidated state.
Jit Bahadur Bhandari, ward chairman of Melung-2, said they were going to use seven ropanis of land from the|temple for the project.
Gaikhura Yuba Club requested the rural municipality to take the initiative to rebuild the temple.
Municipality Chairman Nara Bahadur Shrestha said they have requested the Department of Archaeology and the National Reconstruction Authority for their support to rebuild the temple.
