Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a meeting in Kathmandu on Friday.

The two Prime Ministers witnessed the exchange of MoU on Preliminary Engineering-cum- Traffic Survey on Broad Gauge Line between Raxaul and Kathmandu. The two countries had reached an agreement on the same during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s India visit in April.

It has been learnt that Indian PM Modi will handover a Dharmasala built on the premises of Pashupatinath Temple with assistance from India to the government of Nepal.

Though the two Prime Ministers were supposed to sign an agreement related to bulk cargo, it could not happen due to lack of preparations.

Accoridng to the agreement, India will carry out preliminary Engineering-cum- Traffic Survey on Broad Gauge Line between Raxaul and Kathmandu.

Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd, Indian government-invested company, will carry out the feasibility study.

High-level officials of the company had already met officials of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Department of Railways.

“We have already held a meeting with four officials of the company including Chairman Sanjay Gupta,” Director General of Department of Railways Ananta Acharya said, adding, “There is a plan to complete the study within the next four months.”

According to the Department, the Railway Ministry of India had already picked Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd for the study.

The survey was not started yet as the two countries had not signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Indian PM Modi had arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday morning to take part in the 4^th summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
