A Cabinet meeting on Sunday recommended Acting Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Purna Chandra Thapa for Chief of Army Staff, Minister for Communication and Information Gokul Prasad Banskota said.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari appoints new Army chief. The government had on July 27 recommended Lt Gen Thapa as Acting Chief of Army Staff.
Thapa will formally take charge as CoAS on September 9 after outgoing army chief General Rajendra Chettri retires. (PR)
