Voting at the prison began at 7 am. By around 11 am, 66 inmates and two staff members had cast their ballots.
The staff members who voted included a presiding officer and an assistant presiding officer.
Rupak Mandal, chief of the prison, said voting has been completed and the ballot boxes have been sealed.
“We have sealed the ballot boxes; they will be taken to the office of the chief returning officer after 5 pm,” he said.
The prison currently houses a total of 391 inmates, including women, men, children and senior citizens. However, the others were not listed on the voter roll.
He said the Election Commission had sent a voter list containing 69 inmates, but one had been transferred and two had already been released.
