Two cadres of the CPN-UML were beaten during voting in Rolpa on Thursday, leaving them injured, according to party officials.
CPN-UML Rolpa chair Amrit Bahadur Gharti Magar said in a press statement that cadres of the Nepali Communist Party assaulted UML cadres during polling.
“During the ongoing voting, our cadres were attacked when they tried to stop ‘fake’ voting,” the statement said.
The group of around 20 to 25 people allegedly attacked UML cadres Mahendra Pun and Dipesh Pun inside the polling centre. Both sustained injuries to their eyes and other parts of the body.
Resident and former teacher Jeet Bahadur Pun said he was also injured while trying to protect the victims.
The injured cadres accused polling officials and security personnel deployed at the centre of ignoring the incident.
Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri said police had launched a search for those involved in the assault and had taken three individuals into custody. He said an investigation was underway and legal action would follow.
