The Central Working Committee (CWC) of Nepali Congress (NC) has said that the appointment process of Chief Justice met with an accident because of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s double-standard and prejudiced role. The party said PM Oli played the double role of recommending the name of acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee for the top of post of judiciary and rejecting him later.

Describing the “unfortunate episode” of CJ’s appointment as the incursion of independence and impartiality of judiciary by the executive, the party has decided to remain more active to defend the fundamental values of democracy, constitutional supremacy and independence of judiciary.

In an unprecedented move, the 15-member committee on Friday rejected Joshee as the chief of judiciary, claiming that he failed to give convincing answers to questions raised on his integrity, work efficiency and behaviour.

Likewise, the CWC meeting also passed a condolence proposal expressing deep sorrow over the demise of NC Syangja District Working Committee Chairman and former lawmaker Kamal Prasad Pangeni, NC Nuwakot-chapter former general committee member Bishnu Acharya and NC Sankhuwasabha representative of General Convention and former District Development Committee Chairman Bhairung Dharche.
