Prime Minister KP Oli has directed his party lawmakers to make sure that Parliament proceedings are not obstructed in the coming days, as there are lots of laws to be endorsed by September 18.

He was hinting at the opposition, Nepali Congress, whose MPs had obstructed the House proceedings many times in the recent past.

“We should not stop the Parliament proceedings just because a few lawmakers stand in defiance,” said Prime Minister Oli while addressing the meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Parliamentary Party in Baluwatar on Friday. 

He emphasised that smooth functioning Parliament was essential to ensure that all the remaining bills are endorsed by September 18.

‘“We have to support the Speaker and the Chairman of National Assembly to complete all the tasks of Parliament on stipulated time frame,” the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Oli also directed his party’s MPs to strongly defend the functions of the government.

“We should follow our friends’ experience in parliamentary practices,” he told the lawmakers, adding that the top leaders should strongly put forth their views in favour of the government, policy and programmes, and budget.

Defending the Cabinet’s decision to divide Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, Prime Minister Oli said it was not the division of the ministry as the constitution has the provision of having 25 ministries in total.

“The constitution has allowed 25 ministries and as many ministers and we have managed them accordingly,” he said.
