Nepal Medical Association has decided to shut down all medical services except emergency in every government and private hospitals including nursing homes and clinics from Friday until Dr Govinda KC ends his indefinite hunger strike. Today is the 27^th day of the 15^th fast-unto-death protest of Dr KC.

In a press statement on Thursday, the NMA said the decision to halt all services except emergency comes as the government has remained indifferent to the demands put forth by Dr KC seeking reforms in the nation’s medical education sector.

The NMA, in its statement, has urged the government and concerned authorities to immediately resolve the issue through talks.

Dr KC has been demanding the government to table the National Medical Education Bill as per the recommendations of panel formed under the coordination Kedar Bhakta Mathema.

Talks between the federal government and Dr Govinda KC panel failed on Wednesday as the former refused to negotiate the provisions of controversial National Medical Education Bill that is the main demand of doctor on indefinite hunger strike.
