Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging a hunger strike in Jumla, has been shifted to the emergency unit of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) after his health condition deteriorated.

Doctors at KAHS took KC to the emergency ward at around 5:30 pm by entering the prohibition zone. KC had been staging his fast-unto-death at the covered hall of KAHS.

Medical Director at KAHS Dr Pujan Rokaya said they had to bring KC to the academy after the administration a turned deaf ear to their demands to save the life of the fasting doctor. He also accused police administration of using force to stop them from taking KC to the academy.

Senior orthopaedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Dr KC has been staging his 15th hunger strike against the government’s bid to reverse the gains in medical education he had fought for. The anti-corruption crusader has already held several rounds of hunger strikes demanding various reforms in the country's medical education.
