Oli urges citizens to celebrate Republic Day
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday urged Nepali citizens to celebrate Republic Day with patriotic fervor and not treat it as government day. PM Oli gave this patriotic call at an event hosted at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Capita. The PM is the Chairman of the Republic Day Celebration Main Organising Committee. He said Republic Day should be made the festival of people instead of government day. “Republic Day is not a government day but a people’s day.
Plans should be made to celebrate this day at the rural municipalities’ level.” He said that there is a need to institutionalise the federal democratic republic status achieved through a long struggle.
The government removed public holiday on Republic Day so that official work does not suffer, he said and added the manner of observing Republic Day on May 29 at Tundikhel needs to be changed. (PR)
