Defence lawyers appeal for clients’ release

They appealed before Judge Narayan Prasad Sharma to release their clients from remand.
Four senior advocates, Shambhu Thapa, Raman Shrestha, Yadunath Khanal and Raju Basnet, are
representing the defendants at the trial taking place in Morang District Court.
The public prosecutors presented their case on Friday where they stated that all 63 defendants were involved in the high-profile gold smuggling case and demanded that they be held in judicial detention.
According to a court official, the trial could go on for at least three more days before it is decided whether to retain the remand or release the defendants.
The District Attorney’s Office, Morang, has filed a chargesheet against 63 people for organised crime, hostage-taking and murder.
Police have arrested 30 of the accused while the remaining 33 are still at large.
