A woman died and her mother sustained critical injuries after being struck by a lightning in Phidim of Panchthar district on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Hem Kumari Rai. Police said that Hem’s mother Kalpana Rai, 47, was injured in the incident. The incident occurred while they were staying at their house.

Incapacitated in the incident, Hem was rushed to the District Hospital where she breathed her last during the course of treatment. Kalpana is receiving treatment at the same heath facility.
