Fifteen percent of children in Dhanusha district are suffering from malnutrition, according to a report published by the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM).
Mohammad Mukabil Rain of Aasaman Nepal, a social organisation, said 3 percent of children are suffering from severe malnutrition in the district. Twelve percent of children are suffering from mild malnutrition, he said. Aasaman Nepal is the partner organisation of the IMAM programme.
The District Public Heath Office records show 125,800 children in the district are between the age groups of six months to 59 months.
Aanada Labh, coordinator of the multi-regional nutrition programme, said they have opened 21 health centres to provide treatment for the malnourished children.
“We have been providing free treatment to the children and providing them with nutritious food,” said Labh, adding that they have also started a campaign to raise awareness about the balance diet in the rural areas.
