S Lanka Embassy marks 70th Independence Day
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the National Independence Day of Sri Lanka on Sunday at the Embassy Premises.The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the National Independence Day of Sri Lanka on Sunday at the Embassy Premises.
The programme started with hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador Swarna Perera in the presence of members of Sri Lankan community and well-wishers, according to a statement.
Thereafter the National Anthem was sung. Two minute silence was observed in honour of all the National heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland, followed by lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp.
Clerics representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths conducted ceremonial rituals and thereafter, the National Day messages of President and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka were read.
Addressing the gathering, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal highlighted the importance of the Independence Day, and spoke on the cordial bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
