The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday released Dr Govinda KC on general date but without bail.

A division bench of SC justices Purushottam Bhandari and Bam Kumar Shrestha issued the order freeing Dr KC under the protection of his lawyer Sr Advocate Dr Surendra Bhandari.

The court order has stated that it would enquire with the District Administration Office regarding the controversy over Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli’s citizenship and consult with judicial council regarding his certificates.

According to the court order, Dr Sashi Sharma’s case would be studied after receiving the documents from SC. 

Dr KC was arrested on a contempt of court charge from Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Monday. The apex court ordered the police to arrest Dr KC immediately after the anti-corruption crusader began his hunger strike demanding resignation of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli.

Dr KC continued his hunger strike even in the police custody. He has announced to continue his fast until his demands are addressed.
