SSFN urges Prez to authenticate NA ordinance
Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN) has urged President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to endorse the ordinance related to election of National Assembly.Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN) has urged President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to endorse the ordinance related to election of National Assembly.
President Bhandari is in consultation with cross-party leaders to end the logjam created by dispute on National Assembly election. In this context, she summoned SSFN leaders to Sheetal Niwas to discuss the possible outlet.
SSFN Chairman Upendra Yadav and Co-chair Rajendra Shrestha advised the president not to put on hold the ordinance for long. “Delay in endorsement of the ordinance means prolonging incumbent Sher Bahadur Deuba government. This means insult to the fresh public mandate,” said Shrestha.
Forum leaders opined that Single Transferrable Vote (STV) system proposed in the ordinance is the best suited option for the election of National Assembly although the party might lose some seats because of this system.
Bhandari stated that a political consensus was necessary on the disputed issue. The dispute on NA election has created a political deadlock as the leaders of left alliance are putting pressure for the majority electoral system while NC is in favour of STV system.
“It is the responsibility of parties to sort out their differences. I will endorse the ordinance after the parties come up with one opinion,” president’s personal secretary Bhesh Raj Adhikari quoted Bhandari.
The president is scheduled to hold discussion on the issue with Rastriya Janata Party on Monday.
