The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to register a writ petition, demanding that the Kailali District Election Office should acknowledge power of attorney and issue certificate of election victory to the representative of fugitive murder suspect-turned-parliamentarian Resham Chaudhary. The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to register a writ petition, demanding that the Kailali District Election Office should acknowledge power of attorney and issue certificate of election victory to the representative of fugitive murder suspect-turned-parliamentarian Resham Chaudhary.
Chaudhary, who is accused of masterminding the murders of 10 security personnel in the 2015 Tikapur carnage, was elected in absentia to the federal parliament from Kailali-1 as a Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal candidate.
With the District Election Office of Kailali withholding his victory certificate, Chaudhary, who is on the run from the law, has tired to secure the document using power of attorney.
He delegated his younger brother with the task of seeking a legal recourse on the matter, but the apex court has refused to entertain the case. SC Chief Registrar Nahakul Subedi said on Friday that the court declined to register the writ petition because Chaudhary was a man wanted by the law.
The court shall decide whether to register the case if Chaudhary himself comes in person, he added.
