An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was hurled at Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Gopalman Shrestha in Dhapuk of Bhirkot Municipality-9 on Sunday.
Minister Shrestha was returning from an election programme when an unidentified gang threw IED at the Scorpio (Ba 13 Cha 2027) he was riding on this evening, said police.
No damage was caused by the explosion, police said.
Police suspect the IED was hurled with an intention to frighten the minister. According to Chief District Officer Mahesh Acharya, police are investigating the incident.
Shrestha is federal parliament candidate from Nepali Congress from Syanjga, Constituency 2.
The second phase of federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections are due on December 7.
