Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has warned the political parties of taking stern action against those breaching the election code of conduct in the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections slated for November 16 and December 7.

Speaking at an interaction organised in Rajbiraj of Saptari district on Wednesday, CEC Yadav said the election officers will strictly monitor the compliance of election code during upcoming polls.

“Do not forget that CEC Yadav is also a resident of the district, anyone found breaching the election code of conduct will be subject to stern action,” Yadav said during the programme attended by leaders of various political parties. 

He also directed the local administration office to take action against the teachers of government schools and campuses if they are found participating in publicity campaign of candidates.

Directing the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Saptari, he said, “CDO sir, take action against the teachers and campus chiefs by keeping them in custody if they are found participating in the publicity campaign of candidates.”

CEC Yadav further said that the leaders of various political parties should seriously abide by the election code of conduct.

Moreover, he said those violating the election code of conduct will be fined Rs 100,000.

Saying that the election body would not compromise in the election code of conduct under any pretext, he said, “I am also a Madhesi. I am proud to be a Madhesi, but I have the responsibility of nation which I have to complete at any cost.”

He said that the EC is ready to provide information to the media during the elections.

Claiming that the elections will be held on the schedule date, Yadav said: “Now, it is not possible to postpone the elections and should not be postponed under any pretext. It will be a crime to try to defer the polls.”
