The NC district committee has recommended Raya as the first-past-the-post candidate for federal parliament from Sarlahi Constituency No 2. It is said that Raya, an RJP-N lawmaker, had delayed his formal announcement of joining the NC until the dissolution of parliament on October 14.
The NC leadership is elated at the entry of the influential leader into the party, which deems it as a significant achievement in the home district of RJP-N presidium members Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato and Mahendra Raya.
Raya deserted the Madhes-based party expressing his serious dissatisfaction at candidate selection during the local level elections in Province 2.
Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba was scheduled to
welcome Raya to the party. “But he could not attend the programme due to his busy schedule. Agriculture Minister Ramkrishna Yadav and Minister for Water Supply Mahendra Yadav welcomed Raya to the party,” said NC district Vice-president Surendra Prasad Singh.
