Amidst talks of unification between Nepali Congress and Nepal Loktantrik Forum, a faction of the party led by Co-Chairman Shivalal Thapa has opted not to join the merger.

“Although we are holding talks of unification, we will not join the merger,” Thapa told the Post on Sunday.

Thapa’s Rastriya Janamukti Party (Loktantrik) had earlier merged with Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar’s Loktantrik Forum.

Thapa said that his side has the support of a majority of 335-member central committee and they would contest election from the Forum Loktantrik even if the other faction merges with NC.

Most of the party leaders who joined the Forum Loktantrik six months ago are against the unification with NC.

Forum Loktantrik’s Gachhadar-led panel is expected to join the NC today.
